Anticipated Transitions ☑️
These are expected transitions. We consider them part of the natural life cycle. Examples are graduating, employment, marriage, having kids, getting a promotion, etc.
Unanticipated Transitions ⛔
These are disruptions that usher us into major changes. For instance, life altering accidents, job loss, new competition, bereavement, Covid 19, corporate restructuring, moving to a new place, etc.
Non-event Transitions 🔕
These are deviations from sub-conscious timelines. We expect them to occur at certain times but they don't. Examples are not getting married or kids, not getting promoted, not owning a home at a certain age, etc.
Sleeper Transitions 💤
They are gradual, almost hidden in our sub-conscious until it seems too late. Examples are career stagnation, mid-life, retirement, AI and technology at work, modern workplace, etc. They seem abrupt and very threatening.
The type of transition is not as critical as the impact on you individually, your team and your relationships. Transitions can cause chaos, anxiety and opaqueness even when anticipated.
